Job Post Tip: Consider the Format of your Job Description

The best job posts bring in the best applicants – take it from us. Here are our tips on how to improve your posting on Poached.

A great job description has a thought-out format that creates flow and organizes the content in a way that’s easy to read and understand. You want to ensure your description lays out all the requirements and features of the job clearly — so that those reading your post don’t have to work to understand what they might be applying for.

When you start to write out your job description, consider using sections to break up the details. Begin with a short paragraph introducing the company and the position available. Then, break up job responsibilities, qualifications, and benefits under separate headings. Use bullet points when listing out the details to make them easier to scan. The organization of your job description can go a long way to attract better-qualified applicants because the job details are easier to comprehend. If a potential applicant is confused by your post or what they might be applying for, they’re less likely to apply.

When you post your job on Poached, we show you a preview before you complete your purchase. Take time to look over your description and make sure all the formatting is exactly how you want it. This is especially true if you copy and paste your job description from another document. You can also edit your live job post at any time by clicking the horizontal ellipsis on the job card in your dashboard and selecting Edit Job.
