Job Post Tip: Choose the Right Category

The best job posts bring in the best applicants – take it from us. Here are our tips on how to improve your posting on Poached.

When workers search for jobs on Poached, they typically filter on the job category they’re most interested in. If someone is looking for a bartender job, they’re likely not interested in seeing all the kitchen jobs available. Our category filters make it easier for workers to find the jobs they want and for your job posts to get noticed by experienced candidates.

With that said, picking the right category when posting a job on Poached can play a significant role in how many relevant applicants your job receives. It can be a little difficult to decide on a category for some jobs, like at a cafe that’s hiring a barista, but they also have some kitchen duties like baking pastries. Or perhaps you’re a bar, but you’re looking for a server. Take a moment and consider the role. Pick the category that makes the most sense for the position and the main responsibilities of the job. If the cafe job has more barista duties and simply bakes premade pastries — then the Barista category is probably the better bet. If you’re hiring for a bar that is looking for a server, the Floor category will likely bring in more relevant applications.

If you decide on one category and you’re not getting the results you’d like — you can always edit your post and change the category. Simply log into your account, find the job card in your dashboard, and select Edit Job by clicking the ellipsis button. You could also consider adding a Job Boost to refresh the job back to the top of our job list and increase the promotional budget on our partner network of job sites.
