When crafting your cover letter for a restaurant job, it doesn’t need to be a four-paragraph essay or complex. Just include enough information to develop a connection between your resume and why you’re applying for the job. Keeping the cover letter to two paragraphs should suffice. In the first paragraph, introduce who you are and why you are applying for the job. This could be the place to mention something you admire about the company, something that sparked your interest from the job ad, or if someone referred you to the job.
In the second paragraph, go into more detail about your experience, skills, and what you will bring to the position and the team. This can be especially important if you have gaps in your work history or are making a career change in the restaurant industry. The cover letter is the opportunity to explain your resume and how your experience makes you a great fit in a little more detail, hopefully landing you an interview!
