Introducing Poached Recommendations

Job hunting sucks – We’re building a better way.

Not so long ago, we were sitting around the bar and talking shop. “Job hunting sucks,” our bartender told us. “I have to wade through all these job ads in order to find anything interesting.” It may have been the Negronis, but that’s all we needed to hear.

We’re excited, and just a bit proud, to roll out our new Poached Jobs Recommendations. Using some fancy-pants machine learning our engineering team has been testing over the last year, we can now recommend jobs – just for you. All you need to do is search for jobs that interest you and we’ll do the rest.

When you visit Poached Jobs, our farm-to-table algorithms will learn from your searches and begin figuring out the jobs you’re most likely to apply for. The more you interact with the site, the better the recommendations become. If you look at line cook jobs in San Francisco, the system knows to match you with similar jobs in the Bay Area – but also with jobs you might not have thought of.

That’s the magic part.

With machine learning, the system doesn’t just send cook jobs to cooks, but a variety of jobs that reflect the distinct interests of individual job seekers. For example, someone looking at line cook jobs may want to work as a butcher instead. The machine learning recommendation tools recognize they are applying to certain kinds of restaurants and suggest other jobs that have been popular with seekers with similar searches.

Beginning this week, we’re filling our job seeker newsletters with recommendations. Instead of pulling dozens of jobs from every category, we’ll send you jobs in the categories that interest you the most. As we continue to refine our tech, you’ll continue to see better and better recommendations.

Initially, job recommendations are being made through our newsletter. Soon, we’ll roll out recommendations in other ways. We’re excited for the year ahead as we work hard to make job hunting a lot faster and easier.

If you’re on the prowl for a new job, or even just curious what’s out there, sign up for our recommendation newsletter or just pop over to poachedjobs.com.
